About Cindy

Representative Cindy Evans is a veteran legislator serving her fourth term in the Hawai'i State House of Representative representing North Kona, South Kohala on the Big Island. The growing West Hawai'i district includes over 25,000 residents and includes Pohakuloa Training Area, Kawaihae Harbor, Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii, Kona International Airport, and the famed resorts of the Kohala Coast.
 
At the State Capitol Evans serves as House Majority Floor Leader, and she is also a member of the following committees: Agriculture, Tourism, Culture & International Affairs, Economic Revitalization, Business, & Military Affairs, and Legislative Management.  In previous years Evans served as Majority Whip, Chair of Public Safety & Military Affairs, Vice Chair of Energy and Environmental Protection, Vice Chair of Education, and served as a member on Commerce and Consumer Protection, Finance, Labor, Judiciary, Transportation, Water Land Ocean and Hawaiian Affairs committees.
 
Having forty years of work experience and 57 years of life experience Evans accomplishments are many. Most notably, she is a graduate of Evergreen State College and Western Legislators Academy, former president of the non-profit Waikoloa Village Outdoor Circle, and a current trustee with the Historic Hawai'i Foundation. She's a member of Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Kona Elks, Girl Scouts of America, Waikoloa Lions, Waikoloa Village Outdoor Circle, Daughters of Hawai‘i, and the American Association of University Women.
 
On a personal note, Evans was raised in a college town, home of the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois. Married to Rick Evans, they both enjoy travelling to other countries. Most recently they travelled to India and Indonesia. Her pastime favorites are gardening, golfing, and playing with her cat “Jaya”.
 
After high school, she moved to Seattle, Washington. She is married, no children, and presently resides on the Island of Hawaii where she and her husband have been living for the past 11 years.
